on the computer — devices take on (GiU Unit 124)

Paul never backs up the data on his computer. ✓

Content, data, files, apps ride on the device:

  • on my computer / on my phone / on a laptop
  • on the internet / on a website / on an app
  • on a disk / on a drive / on a memory card

in = physically inside the machine (the cavity, hardware): the fan is in my computer — not where data lives.

The device is treated as a surface/medium you put things onto, like a desk. Same on-logic: on TV, on the radio, on page 53, on the phone (device/medium = on).

on in
on the computer (data) in the computer (inside the case)
on my phone (apps) in my bag (physical location)
